Entertainment News Week of 1/24

Ron Isley is out of jail and ready to go to work. Isley did close to three years in federal prison for tax evasion, but now he is ready to go on tour. Saturday, May 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, it’s Ron and The Isley Brothers, The Whispers and Teena Marie. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 29th at all Ticketmaster locations or by calling 215-336-2000.Sources say Golfer Tiger Woods is getting the help he needs.

Woods is currently doing a stint at a rehab clinic in Mississippi. Before he returns to golfing or the public, he is seeking help for his addiction. Still no word on whether his wife will take him back after he humiliated her with various women.

Former Talk Show Host Montel Williams is being labeled a deadbeat dad. Williams’ children by his ex-wife Grace say even though their dad pays child support ($19,000 a month), he gives them no emotional support. The kids, who are now teenagers, claim they have seen their famous dad four times in five years. They say they have tried therapy, but because their dad is mad at their mom, he refuses to have anything to do with them.

Will the Jackson brothers return to the A&E network? Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon and Tito have been silent on whether or not they will return. The A&E network wants the brothers back. Maybe they are holding out for more money. I thought the show was funny as heck. The dynamics between the brothers was interesting.

He may not be going to Hollywood, but General Larry Platt has a hit on his hands with Pants On The Ground. The 63-year old civil rights veteran appeared on American Idol during the Atlanta auditions, and he became an overnight sensation. The song, Pants On The Ground, is infectious and truthful. Hopefully, General Platt will have a fruitful fifteen minutes of fame. Now speaking of American Idol, the rumors are swirling about who is going to take Simon Cowell’s place when he leaves at the end of the season.

Producer Rodney Jerkins, who has worked with Brandy, Beyonce and J-Lo, has had his name pop up, and LaToya Jackson is inquiring about the job. LaToya says she would be perfect, and if producers hire her, they would get the REAL LaToya Jackson.

The drama surrounding the love life of 72-year old Oscar Winner Morgan Freeman continues. Freeman has been escorting his manager to his public events portraying her as his latest squeeze. But, Freeman, who is still married to his long suffering wife Myrna, has been seeing his 27-year old step-granddaughter. The young woman, E’Dena Hines, is the granddaughter of his first wife, and Freeman helped raise her since she was ten. Freeman’s current and soon to be ex-wife has put him on blast because of his scandalous behavior. Freeman has been warned to cool it because it could hurt his chances of getting nominated for another Oscar for his role in Invictus. Freeman is not letting anything stop him, including an injured hand that he hurt during a car crash with a jump off.

Book Of Eli Star Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta were in town a couple of days ago enjoying the sites, including the African American Museum at 7th and Arch. The Washingtons have been spending a lot of time on the east coast. They have two sons in school in the area, and Denzel is about to star in the Broadway production of Fences, which kicks off in April.

She’s funny, talented, the host of her own late night talk show and now a Golden Globe winner, but when will she shave her legs. Mo’Nique looked stunning, and she was gracious accepting her award for best supporting actress in the movie Precious. But, the fashion critics were all over her when she lifted her dress and revealed her hairy legs. Mo’Nique has always walked to the beat of her own drum, but the hairy legs are a distraction. Up next for Mo’: will her name be called around Academy Awards time? The nominees will be announced on February 2nd, Groundhogs’ Day. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards air March 7th on ABC.

It’s a topless Lisa Raye in the new issue of Giant magazine. The former First Lady Of The Turks And Ciaos Islands looks amazing. Lisa Raye has a new reality show debuting later this year on TV One.

Mariah Carey, Please Stop Drinking! For the past few weeks, Carey has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. And, it’s all because she the bubbly. Her most embarrassing moment was at the Palm Springs Film Festival. She won an award for her role in Precious for break through actress. Close friends of Carey realize she has a problem. At the rate she’s going, no one will take her seriously whether she’s acting or singing. Her last album was a flop because she refused to sing. She would rather whisper over a hip hop beat. Mariah: Open Your Mouth And Sing! You Have A Great Voice! Use It! Meanwhile, how much can her hubby Nick Cannon take? Cannon’s career is thriving, but he always has to stop what he’s doing so he can be there to hold Carey up.

VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club is returning. Sergeant Harvey is ready to whip some celebrities into shape, including Kevin Federline and his baby momma Actress Shar Jackson. Bobby Brown is also part of the pack. The new season of Celebrity Fit Club kicks off February 14th.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards air January 31st on CBS. Beyonce and Maxwell are scheduled to perform. One of the highlights of the evening will be the tribute to Michael Jackson featuring Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Smokey Robinson. The tribute will be in 3-D and various Target stores will be giving away the 3-D glasses.

The Hope For Haiti Telethon is happening on Friday, January 22nd. Actor George Clooney is producing the event, and he will be live from Los Angeles. Wyclef Jean will be live from New York, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper will be live from Haiti. Scheduled performers for the evening include Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and a possible Fugees reunion with Wyclef, Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel. The show will air starting at 8pm on all the major networks and cable stations.

VH1 is producing a documentary about the TV show Soul Train. Terrence Howard is narrating the documentary called The Hippest Trip In America. It airs February 5th on VH1.

The Third Annual BET Honors is happening February 1st. Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and Diddy are among the honorees. Gabrielle Union returns as host. Scheduled performers include Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, India.Arie and Patti LaBelle.Toni Braxton has pushed back the date of her latest album Pulse. The album’s new release date is March 2nd.

Benicio Del Toro stars as The Wolfman, which opens in theatres February 12th.

John Travolta sports a new look. He’s got a shaved head in the movie From Paris With Love, which opens in theatres February 5th.

On February 11th, PBS presents a celebration of music from the Civil Rights movement. John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Seal, Smokey Robinson and The Blind Boys Of
Alabama will join President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for a special from The White House during Black History Month.

Will Celebrity Apprentice help this funny man get out of debt? Actor/Comedian Sinbad is having serious financial problems, and he is going to be a part of the new season of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. The show will also feature Holly Robinson Peete, and kicks off March 14th on NBC.

Lionel Richie is this year’s honoree for the UNCF Evening Of Stars. Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder and Natalie Cole were just a few of the stars on hand for the festivities that will air on FOX Saturday, January 23rd at 2pm.

Big Daddy Aaron McCargo, Jr. from the Food Network is working on a cookbook. The book is due out this fall. You can catch Big Daddy’s House on the Food Network every Sunday at 1:30pm.

The Lee Daniels’ movie Precious is leading the pack with 8 nominations. Singer Maxwell leads all entertainers with five nominations.

Philadelphia’s own Bill Cosby will be the 2010 recipient of the Marian Anderson Award. The Marian Anderson Award is an honor that salutes artists whose leadership benefits society. The awards ceremony takes place April 6th at the Kimmel Center, Broad & Spruce. Past winners include Danny Glover, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Gere, Sidney Poitier and Quincy Jones.

The new version of the Karate Kid hits theatres next summer with Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson and Jackie Chan.

How to Poop AKA BOO-BOO at Work!

HOW TO POOP AT WORK

We've all been there but don't like to admit it. As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, the WORKPOOP is inevitable. For those who hate pooping at work, following is the Survival Guide for having a dump at work.

CROP DUSTING : When farting, you walk briskly around the office so the smell is not in your area and everyone else gets a whiff but doesn't know where it came from. Be careful when you do this. Do not stop until the full farthas been expelled. Walk an extra 30 feet to make sure the smell has left your pants.

FLY BY : This is the act of scouting out a bathroom before pooping. Walk in and check for other poopers. If there are others in the bathroom, leave and come back again. Be careful not to become a

FREQUENT FLYER. People may become suspicious if they catch you constantly going into the bathroom.

ESCAPEE: This is a fart that slips out while taking a leak at the urinal or forcing a poop in a stall. This is usually accompanied by a sudden wave of embarrassment. If you release an escapee, do not acknowledge it. Pretend it did not happen. If you are standing next to the farter in the urinal, pretend you did not hear it. No one likes an escapee. It is uncomfortable for all involved. Making a joke or laughing makes both parties feel uneasy.

JAILBREAK : When forcing a poop, several farts slip out at a machine gun pace. This is usually a side effect of diarrhea or a hangover. If this should happen, do not panic. Remain in the stall until everyone has left the bathroom to spare everyone the awkwardness of what just occurred.

COURTESY FLUSH : The act of flushing the toilet the instant the poop hits the water. This reduces the amount of airtime the poop has to stink up the bathroom. This can help you avoid being caught doing the WALK OF SHAME.

WALK OF SHAME : Walking from the stall, to the sink, to the door after you have just stunk the bathroom. This can be a very uncomfortable moment if someone walks in and busts you. As with farts, it is best to pretend that the smell does not exist. This very uncomfortable walk can be avoided with the use of the COURTESY FLUSH.

OUT OF THE CLOSET POOPER : This is a colleague who poops at work and is damn proud of it. You will often see an Out Of The Closet Pooper enter the bathroom with a newspaper or magazine under his or her arm. Always look around the office for the Out Of The Closet Pooper before entering the bathroom.

THE POOPING FRIENDS NETWORK (P.F.N) : A group of co-workers who band together to ensure emergency pooping goes off without incident. This group can help you to monitor the whereabouts of Out Of The Closet Poopers, and identify SAFE HAVENS.

SAFE HAVENS : A Safe Haven is a seldom-used bathroom somewhere in the building where you can least expect visitors. Try floors that are predominantly of the opposite sex. This will reduce the odds of a pooper of your sex entering the bathroom.

TURD BURGLAR : This is someone who does not realize that you are in the stall and tries to force the door open. This is one of the most shocking and vulnerable moments that can occur when taking a poop at work If this occurs, remain in the stall until the Turd Burglar leaves. This way you will avoid all uncomfortable eye contact.

CAMO-COUGH : A phony cough that alerts all new entrants into the bathroom that you are in a stall is called a Camo-Cough. This can be used to cover-up a WATERMELON, or to alert potential Turd Burglars. The Camo-Coughis very effective when used in conjunction with an ASTAIRE.

ASTAIRE : An Astaire is a subtle toe-tap that is used to alert potential Turd Burglars that you are occupying a stall. This will remove all doubt that the stall is occupied. If you hear an Astaire, leave the bathroom immediately so the pooper can poop in peace.

WATERMELON : A watermelon is a big poop that creates a loud splash when hitting the toilet water. This is also an embarrassing incident. If you feel a Watermelon coming on, create a diversion. See CAMO-COUGH.

HAVANA OMELET : A case of diarrhea that creates a series of loud splashes in the toilet water. Often accompanied by an Escapee. Try using a Camo-Cough with an Astaire.

UNCLE TODD : An Uncle Todd is a bathroom user who seems to linger around forever. This person could spend extended lengths of time in front of the mirror or sitting on the pot. An Uncle Todd makes it difficult to relax while on the crapper, as you should always wait to poop when the bathroom is empty.

This benefits you as well as other bathroom attendees.

Book of Job

During conversation with my dear friend Janice, we were discussing that our heavenly Father spoke to her in her dream, woke her up and directed her to the book of Job. Many people don't believe the hype when someone says they were spoken to. You don't have to believe it, thats up to you. But anyhow..she forwarded this information to me and thought I would share with you. You may be able to apply it to yourself. Is this you?

Sometimes, well no...Im lying...ALOT of times we may want to question God and the trials he puts us through. We need to understand that it is HIS plan and not ours. Some people still don't understand, some never will. If you ever question him...you may wanna think twice.

Read this...and think about it...

Practical Application: The Book of Job reminds us that there is a "cosmic conflict" going on the behind the scenes that we usually know nothing about. Often we wonder why God allows something, and we question or doubt God's goodness, without seeing the full picture. The Book of Job teaches us to trust God under all circumstances. We must trust God, not only WHEN we do not understand, but BECAUSE we do not understand. The Psalmist tells us “As for God, His way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30). If God’s ways are “perfect,” then we can trust that whatever He does—and whatever He allows—is also perfect. This may not seem possible to us, but our minds are not God’s mind. It is true that we can’t expect to understand His mind perfectly, as He reminds us “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). Nevertheless, our responsibility to God is to obey Him, to trust Him and to submit to His will, whether we understand it or not.

Like Ice Cube Said..."Today Was a Good Day!"

Last night we had a little girls night at my house, some cousins and some really good friends came through. I felt like a chef yesterday... =) I started off with breakfast for a really good friend.. Cajun Turkey and Cheese Omelets were off the chain! Cooked lots of food for my girls night...we had: Spaghetti Casserole, Chicken Enchiladas & Cheese Enchiladas (specially made for my girl Azeb), meatballs and salad. There was a host of other items...dips, veggies, etc.

Cousin Monique made some pretty good "Pink Panties" with a twist. I forget what she calls the drink with the twist...it was good though!!! I think everyone agreed and thats real! Thanks cousin! Here are a few pics from last night...

What I saw was BEAUTIFUL!!!! This view is from my parking lot at home...heading North on Milliken looks even better! Yes, I am making a big deal because I am in Southern Cali...and its rare we get to see things like this! So yeah...it was nice seeing this view first thing this morning!


Cousin Monique spent the night which was great! She hung around to especially see little Miss Breanna do her 1st gymnastics class. She helped take some photos which was cool.

So everyone's question is how did she do? Wellllll.....my first instinct was to ask if I could get my money back! The little girl pretty much had her own agenda. She wouldn't stand up, she had jelly legs, she wouldn't pay attention and wouldn't even look at her coach.


My cousin told me I did a very good job at my gymnastics class...lol. Ima' get my moneys worth that's for sure! LOL! Bre's trippin! She better get with it!
After her gym class...I met up with Rochelle, Alondra, Marie and Melissa for some scrappin! It was great. We went to our new location in Mira Loma that Rochelle hooked up for us. Thanks Rochelle! We had a good time as usual!

Entertainment News Week of 1/11

We begin with the loss of Philly’s own “TP.” Teddy Pendergrass has passed away at the age of 58. A life-long resident of the city and an international sensation, Teddy came to prominence as the lead singer of Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes. They signed with Gamble and Huff on Philadelphia International Records in 1971. They had a string of hits with If You Don’t Know Me By Now, The Love I Lost, Bad Luck and Wake Up Everybody. Pendergrass left the Bluenotes and went on to a solo career with the hits Love TKO, Come Go With Me and Close The Door. Although a 1982 car crash left Pendergrass paralyzed, he continued recording and had a hits with You’re My Choice Tonight, Joy and Hold Me, a hit duet with Whitney Houston. In the last years of his life, Pendergrass created The Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization for those living with spinal cord injuries. Pendergrass’ record-breaking album sales and concerts set the standard for most of today’s hottest artists. The world will miss the legendary “Teddy Bear.”

There are a lot of changes in TV land. Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol for his own show, The X-Factor. The FOX network offered him millions to do both shows, but Cowell says he wants to do his own thing. The buzz is on ex-Idol Judge Paula Abdul. Will she be joining Cowell on his new show X-Factor, which debuts in 2011?

David Hasselhoff is out as judge on America’s Got Talent. His drinking escapades got to be too much for the producers. He is being replaced by Howie Mandel from Deal Or No Deal.

It looks like Conan O’Brien is going to take the money and run. The fallout continues from The Tonight Show debacle. Jay Leno will return to his former time slot after the Winter Olympics. O’Brien feels betrayed, and is talking of leaving the network. Is there a FOX in his future? Here is what I want to know, Leno had excellent rating, so why did they move him to 10pm? Why would they make him leave his show to give it to someone else? O’Brien’s ratings were not as good as Leno’s. David Letterman is somewhere laughing his behind off.

The Michael Jackson death investigation has ended. The case has gone to the D.A.’s office. Sources say Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, will likely face some kind of criminal charge. The case took so long because it was so complicated. Murray didn’t break any laws, but he was negligent while administering the propofol, which caused Jackson’s death. He could face involuntary manslaughter charges.

Who robbed Usher? The superstar says he was robbed of a million dollars worth of goodies that were stolen from his SUV. Usher says he was holiday shopping when someone broke into his car and stole jewelry, furs, clothing and laptops. Who carries this kind of stuff in their cars? Usher says he did have insurance.

Get ready for Jill Scott. The new mommy is back with a vengeance in 2010. Check out her new column in the February issue of Essence magazine. She will be starring in the Lifetime movie Sins Of The Mother on February 7th. Her new Tyler Perry movie with Janet Jackson, Why Did I Get Married Too, opens in theatres April 2nd. She’ll also be playing the voice of “Storm” in the new BET animated series Black Panther. She has a new album, Light Of The Sun, coming out this summer, and she’ll touring on the Lilith Fair concert series with Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu.

Oscar Winner Morgan Freeman is trying to hide his messy love life. The 72-year old has been put on blast by his soon to be ex-wife for dating his 27-year old step-granddaughter. She’s a young woman he never adopted, but has raised since she was 10. Over the past couple of years, skeletons have come out of Morgan’s closet with jumpoffs, mistresses, car crashes and now the step-granddaughter. The whole situation is messy, and Freeman has been asked to do something about it. He is up for a slew of awards for his role as Nelson Mandela in the movie Invictus, and his controversial love life is causing too much scandal. At future events, look for Freeman to have as his companion, his manager, a tall blonde who is just going along with the game. Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Speaking of the VH1 network, they have a couple of hits on their hands with the Fantasia’s reality show, Fantasia For Real, and Pepa from Salt N Pepa with Let’s Talk About Pep. Pep’s show is funny as heck, and Fantasia’s show is deep. She’s taking care of everybody in her family. No wonder she’s broke. The shows air at 10pm and 10:30pm, respectively. Million tuned in for the premieres last week.

It may be a Valentine’s Day wedding for Singer Keyshia Cole and Basketball Player Daniel “Boobie” Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cole got a ten-carat engagement ring over the holiday, and they are expecting their first child in early spring. Cole has gone out of her way to distance herself from her controversial family. Her mom and sister are the stars of The Frankie And Neff Show on BET. Cole is embarking on a new chapter of her life, and she doesn’t want the drama associated with them. In a press release, she has asked them to not make comments on her life because they are not involved in it.

Is some color coming to Saturday Night Live? The long running sketch comedy show has come under fire for their lack of African American cast members. I hear Chris Rock’s brother Tony is being looked at as well as Comedienne Debra Wilson who used to star on Mad TV.

The new issue of Ebony magazine features Kimora Lee Simmons and her hubby, Actor Djimon Hounsou. Their family is featured on the cover in a beautiful spread. Meanwhile, Essence magazine is catching heat for their latest cover photo choice. New Orleans Saints’ Reggie Bush is on the cover. He is also the boyfriend of TV Personality Kim Kardashian. Not only did they use a photo from 2006, but they put a man on the cover who is not known for dating women of color. The issue celebrates love and relationship, and a lot of people feel they should have made a better decision regarding the cover choice. Hope it doesn’t hurt sales.

Hot couples news includes Southland Star Regina King and former Cosby Kid Malcolm Jamal Warner (“Theo”). King’s new TV show Southland is excellent. It airs Tuesday nights at 10pm on TNT.

Lisa Raye and Rapper Nelly have also been spotted getting cozy in Detroit.

Check out Beyonce on the new issue of Allure magazine. Beyonce is promoting her new fragrance Heat. She is also taking a much needed break. In the spring, Beyonce says she’ll step away from the spotlight for six months to live life.

Congrats to 6ABC News Anchor Monica Malpass, who is expecting twins this coming June. Malpass anchors the 5pm news with Rick Williams, and hosts the Sunday morning political show Inside Story. Malpass is the mother of a pre-teen son who is said to be excited about the upcoming arrival of her twins. Good Luck Monica!

The BET network presents The Michael Vick Project. It’s an eight-part series that will focus on the embattled football star who rejoined the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. The series will focus on his life after the dog fighting scandal that almost ruined his career.

Basketball Star Jayson Williams has pleaded guilty to shooting his limo driver. Williams will serve at least 18 months in prison for the 2002 Valentine’s Day cover up and accidental shooting of his limo driver. Williams pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. During the height of his career with the Sixers and Nets, he signed an $86 million contract with the NBA. Since the shooting, his life has been on a downward spiral. Just two weeks ago, he was arrested for drunk driving after crashing his car into a tree.

Are you a Reason? A Season? Or a Lifetime?

People come into your life for a REASON, a SEASON or a LIFETIME. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.

What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season .

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Long Live the King! We love you!


I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

We cannot walk alone
And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

We cannot turn back.
There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: "For Whites Only." We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."2

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:

My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.
Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

But not only that:

Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.
Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.
Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

They Said it Was Coming...

Well the "Big Storm" is finally here! It is raining as we speak...I hear the rain over Little Bill (cartoon on Nick Jr.). I am soo glad it finally got here, cuz I was starting to be a little embarrassed of my filthy car. I refused to wash it though since the rain was coming through!
Listening to the rain....my goodness....simple things like this we seem to take advantage of. Me and my mom were in the car today speaking about the tragedies taking place in Haiti. My mom said, "I am so glad we have what we have here in our world." I agreed and we continued to discuss how we complain about alot about our world, what we have and what we don't have. I proceeded to tell her how sad it is that we take SO many things for granted here...

Anyway...the reason I mentioned this was because WE tend to take things for granted. Simple things like being able to even listen to the sweet sound of rain...

Anyway...my weekend was good.
Saturday me and Alondra drove to the OC to the expo, it was ok. We got a little moded, thought we were gonna scrap but the crop was sold out. I always buy my tickets online, Alondra says she has never had a problem buying at the door. SO...I was like ok, I will buy at the door. NOT! Wasn't happening! We met sister Rochelle up there and the 3 of us hung out in the OC. We had lunch at some spot...it was not the business...I actually asked for my money back. But we had a good time in there, I think we spent like 3 hours in there. We had some serious girl talk.

While having the girl talk time, I thought to myself! Hmph! Girls night! Friday night, my house, beverages, food, good music and most of all good company! Can't wait!

This morning woke up for church it was great as usual. After church I had to face my mountain of laundry...6 loads...just made no sense..its just me and Bre! LOL! Oh well...it got done! Thank God mommy lets me come over and hook it up!

After laundry was done, we went out to eat, me, mommy and Bre. We had a good dinner, nice and full.

Tomorrow I am off in honor of the great MLK....hopefully I can catch the parade on TV in the morning. Missing the parade we use to have in the hood. What is the real reason it was removed? Sucks...

Entertainment News Week of 1/10

Teddy Riley says he loves his daughters. They will always be his little girls, but they will not disrespect him, especially in his own house. Riley faces a court hearing later this month for assaulting his daughters, who he says attacked him first. Riley’s daughters, ages 18 and 21, fought their father, and he whipped their behinds and kicked them out of his house. Riley says he had to fight his daughters off of him. So what started the fight? Riley, 43, has a 22-year old girlfriend, and his daughters don’t like her. Riley is best known for his work with Guy and Blackstreet, being a top producer in the new jack swing era and his work with Michael Jackson.

Mariah Carey is still trying to explain her bizarre behavior at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Carey, minus hubby Nick Cannon, appeared tipsy and confused when she went to accept her award for Breakthrough Actress for her role in the movie Precious. Stunned on lookers were shocked by Carey’s behavior. This may explain why Carey is often seen in the grips of her husband Nick Cannon. Cannon couldn’t be there with his wife because he is doing a radio show in New York. After this incident, she may need him to be with her at all times.

Boyz II Men are gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony. Yes, it’s been 20 years for Nate, Shawn and Wanya. I hear Mike McCrary, who left the group few years ago, may be back in the fold for the reunion if it can be worked out. The guys are currency celebrating the release of their new CD, Love, and they are also fighting off controversies. Shawn “Slim” Stockman is being accused of being a polygamist. Stockman is an Israelite, and sources say they are allowed to have seven wives under their religion. Well one lady, a swimsuit model, claims she was in a spiritual marriage with Stockman for nine years. Stockman’s wife, who he has been with for nine years, had no idea this was going on, but, according to the swimsuit model, his other women around the world did. The swimsuit model claims she had to leave Stockman when she found out about the other women. She didn’t mind the wife, but the other women… no way! I know… I know….. WTH! At press time, there was no word from Stockman or his wife, who now knows everything.

All is well between Mary J. Blige and her husband Kendu. After she went upside his head at her album release party, he came to his senses. No more flirting within 20 feet of his wife Cause Mary Don’t Play That! Mary and her hubby were recently spotted hand in hand smiling at a recent Lakers game.

WDAS morning man Steve Harvey is back as the host of the 10th Annual BET Celebration Of Gospel. The show airs this Sunday, the 10th at 8pm on BET.

Regina King returns to TV in the cop drama Southland. The show originally aired on NBC, but now has a new home. The show now airs Tuesday nights at 10pm on the TNT network. King is best known for her roles in the movies Ray, Poetic Justice, Jerry Maguire and the TV show 227, where she played “Brenda.” King now plays “Detective Lydia Kirkland” in Southland. , a no-nonsense detective who is trying to find a balance in her life.

Singer/Actor Tyrese is lucky to be alive. He was involved in a car crash a few days ago, which totaled his Dodge Charger.

The February issue of Essence magazine is a celebration of sexy black men. Football Star Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints is on the cover. The issue deals with black men, love and relationships. Idris Elba, Lance Gross and LL Cool J are some of the men featured representing sports, music and Hollywood. This issue also highlights Singer/Actress Jill Scott, who’s debuting her new column.

Disgraced Golfer Tiger Woods is on the cover of Vanity Fair. In a photo that was taken in 2006, it shows Woods topless and raw. In the interview, he appears to be obsessed with black men, making various jokes about black men and their body parts. Woods never refers to himself as black it’s always Calabanasian. I know….. very confusing.

Supermodel Beverly Johnson is being sued by an ex-boyfriend. He claims he was a kept man, and she took care of him. Now that the relationship is over, he still wants the money. He is suing her for $5 million. Johnson is known as one of the first black supermodels, and she has her successful line of wigs and hairpieces.

The past decade has been a nightmare for the former NBA player and TV personality. At the height of his career, he signed an $86 million contract, he was funny, he was writing books and he was a hit on the talk show circuit. Then he broke his leg, never recovered and retired from the NBA. Then, he accidentally shot his limo driver, but was acquitted of all but the manslaughter charge. This case is going to be retried at a later date. He is currently estranged from his wife who stated her husband needs psychological help. With his recent arrest, maybe he will get it. Williams is slowly killing himself.

We remember Eunice Johnson, who passed away this week at the age of 93. Johnson was the wife of publishing giant and Ebony/Jet Founder John H. Johnson, who passed in 2005. He created the Johnson Publishing Company, whose principal publication, Ebony magazine, celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. Mrs. Johnson actually suggested the name Ebony for the magazine. In 1961, she created The Ebony Fashion Fair. As producer and director, Mrs. Johnson built the event into the world’s largest traveling fashion show, which eventually gave starts to many performers including Oscar Nominee Diahann Carroll and the original “John Shaft,” Richard Roundtree. The Ebony Fashion Fair also raised over $50 million for charities, including the United Negro College Fund.

Morgan Freeman is the new voice of the CBS Evening News With Katie Couric. Oscar Winner Freeman, whose latest movie is Invictus, started the voiceovers this week for the network. He replaces legendary Broadcaster Walter Cronkite, who was the voice for many years before he died last year.

February 8th is the long awaited date for the new album from Sade. Soldier Of Love is her latest project. She is backed by her longtime band Sweetback. Philadelphia’s own Bill Cosby will be the 2010 recipient of the Marian Anderson Award. The Marian Anderson Award is an honor that salutes artists whose leadership benefits society. The awards ceremony takes place April 6th at the Kimmel Center, Broad & Spruce. Past winners include Danny Glover, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Gere, Sidney Poitier and Quincy Jones.The new version of the Karate Kid hits theatres next summer with Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson and Jackie Chan.

Tyler Perry is going to be in Philadelphia with his latest stage production, Madea’s Big Happy Family. Tix are on sale for the show, which runs April 29th- May 2nd at the Liacouras Center, Broad and Montgomery.

The Grammy Awards take place January 31st. Scheduled performers include Maxwell and Beyonce.

Idris Elba, Michael Ealy and Rapper T.I. will be starring in the new movie Takers, which opens in theatres February 19th, 2010. Elba has also signed on for the movie Thor, where he will play a superhero.

Right now...I am about to go lay down because I am not feeling well...have a very nasty cough and I am cramping! Ugh! The dynamic duo!

Dr. prescribed me cough syrup with codeine...so somebody please check on me to make sure I didn't overdose! Codeine is not my friend!

Its Always Something...

Just when I think I am gonna be back on track with my blog....something always happens. My pc has been out of order for a minute, more than a month, was using moms, but now hers is trippin.

Happy New Year!!!

Okay...well, sheesh...I mean I really let my blog go!

2009 was just NOT THE BUSINESS!!! So many things happened, life changing events, some good and some definitely not so good. But I do recall God saying that he will never give me nothing I can't handle!

So with that...today is a new day! It is January 1st, 2010 baby!


Today I started my day off in the best way possible! First thanking the Lord for another day, another year! Second...WhoGivesaScrap had their first crop of the year! It was great! Tons of food, and oh my gosh! The laughs and jokes! Some ladies finally were able to put faces with screen names...some ladies were new and met some of us for the first time!

We had a good time!

Resolutions...my dad asked me last night what my resolutions were. I told him I didn't make any. Why? Because most the time I don't accomplish what I have set out to accomplish. What I will be doin is just taking one day at a time.


But thinking of it more, I do need to set some personal goals. Yeah...I guess they can be resolutions. Like to hear them? Here they go!
  • Continue to grow closer to God!
  • Decrease my debt and increase my savings! Spiritually & Financially!
  • Create some saving method for possibly buying a new house, although me and Bre are pretty content in our new place. Lovin Rancho!
  • Tone up my arms...bye bye Oprah arm!!!...tone my legs too!
  • Spend more time with Bre, more quality time. She has gymnastics I signed her up for beginning in mid month so that should be fun!
  • Join a book club
  • Try to not let the things I cannot change bother me.

Okay...so there you have it. I am positive I can accomplish those!

I will also attempt to give a better effort in updating my blog. Maybe this will be the year I can print up all my post and make something out of it! So I will try my best to post frequently. If it is very short...don't trip. If it is lengthy...print it and take it to the toilet!

****Just had a flashback of Jennifer's husbands pulled pork he provided for us today! Off the chain! Good lookin out Jennifer!***

I had soooo much food, sugar and laughs I HONESTLY think I blacked out for a minute. It was quite scary..all the sudden I got dizzy and my head started to spin. I had to close my eyes..and pray I didn't have to cut my crop time short and someone elses cuz they would have had to leave and take me to the hospital! But I snapped out of it!
