Shut Yo Mouf!

2 great entertainers...gone in one weekend....

(CNN) -- Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film "Shaft," has died, sheriff's officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday.

Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Shular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said. No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.
Hayes was a longtime songwriter and arranger for Stax Records in Memphis, playing in the studio's backup band and crafting tunes for artists such as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave in the 1960s. See photos of singer Isaac Hayes »

He released his first solo album in 1967, and his 1969 follow-up, "Hot Buttered Soul," became a platinum hit. In 1971, the theme from "Shaft" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and won an Academy Award for best original theme song. The song and the movie score also won Grammy awards for best original score and movie theme. Hayes won a third Grammy for pop instrumental performance with the title track to his 1972 "Black Moses" album.

From the late 1990s through 2006, Hayes provided the voice of "Chef" for Comedy Central's raunchy animated series "South Park," as well as numerous songs.
The role introduced him to a new generation of fans, but he left after the show lampooned his own religion, the Church of Scientology.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. In a CNN interview at the time, Hayes credited his success to "adjusting and constantly evolving, expanding and trying to stay as young as I can." The new generation of popular musicians, he said, "could use a little more substance like we had in the day."

"They're standing on our shoulders. Some of them don't realize [it] because they sample me so much," he said.

Hayes credited his role on "South Park" with expanding his fan base, and said that he had almost passed on the job.

"I started to walk out. I thought it was a Disney thing. I [had] never heard of this thing," he said. But his agent persuaded him to tape some episodes.

"Toward the opening I started having trepidations -- 'Oh my god, what have I done? I've ruined my career.' But when it aired, the ratings went through the roof," he said.

A 1992 visit to the royal family in Ghana was a life-changing experience for Hayes, he said.
"I went back on speaking engagements and encouraged African-Americans to go to Africa [to] interact socially, culturally and/or economically," he said.

We Lose Another Great Comedian...

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Bernie Mac, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian who worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side, died Saturday at age 50.

Bernie Mac, 50, was nominated for a Grammy for "The Original Kings of Comedy."

"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles, California. She said no other details were available and asked that his family's privacy be respected. The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.

Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama. Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama's campaign.

But despite controversy or difficulties, in his words, Mac was always a performer.

"Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show."
Mac started his comedy career at age 8, with a standup performance at a church dinner. In 1977, at age 20, he took that act to comedy clubs in Chicago.

His film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans movie "Mo' Money" in 1992. In 1996, he appeared in the Spike Lee drama "Get on the Bus."

Mac went on to star in the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney. His turn with Ashton Kutcher in 2005's "Guess Who?" -- a remake of the Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn 1967 classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" -- topped the box office.
Mac also had starring roles in "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."
In the late 1990s, he had a recurring role in "Moesha," the UPN network comedy starring pop star Brandy.

The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006.

The series about a man's adventures raising his sister's three children won a Peabody Award in 2002. At the time, judges wrote they chose the sitcom for transcending "race and class while lifting viewers with laughter, compassion -- and cool." iReport.com: Share your appreciation for Bernie Mac

The show garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac.

"But television handcuffs you, man," he said in a 2001 Associated Press interview. "Now everyone telling me what I CAN'T do, what I CAN say, what I SHOULD do, and asking, 'Are blacks gonna be mad at you? Are whites gonna accept you?"'

He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" co-stars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer.
In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS' "Late Show" that he planned to retire soon.
"I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit," Mac told Letterman. "I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977."

Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on October 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city's South Side, living with his mother and grandparents. His grandfather was a deacon in a Baptist church.

In his 2004 memoir, "Maybe You Never Cry Again," Mac wrote about having a poor childhood -- eating bologna for dinner -- and a strict, no-nonsense upbringing.

Mac's mother died of cancer when he was 16. In his book, Mac said she was a support for him and told him he would surprise everyone when he grew up.

"Woman believed in me," he wrote. "She believed in me long before I believed."

A Day at the Beach...

Okay...so I know it took me long enough to add up my photos!
Well 2 weeks ago today I thought it would be cool for us to have a family day and take Breanna to the beach for the first time. My girlfriend recommended Corona Del Mar Beach, as it may be more on the clean side and quiet, kick back. The beach also has a nice little grass area which was nice too. The weather...was an immediate change from the Inland Empire. While at home it was well in the 100's and I wanna say at the beach it was about somewhere in the mid to high 70's.
We left home around 10:30ish had a few errands to run and finally got to the beach around noon. No traffic on the way there which was beautiful. We took the toll roads...kinda nice but not....why do they charge so much!? And you have to pay both ways!

Needless to say we got there in no time.
So Bre's first time at the beach...come with me on her adventure...

Here she is on her way, with one of her little fury friends in her lap. In the corner you can see her little toy chair that of course plays music. There is also a small dish that holds treats...she loves this chair. Everytime she sits down, it plays tunes. So yes, we brought that with us.

I took her attachment out her mouth so I can try and get a decent smile...good enough!

There is a cute smile! She really wasn't too sure to think of the beach. She just barely got used to walking on the grass, and now she has to put up with sand for the day! She did well overall...considering it was her first time.

What a diva....she was sitting on dads lap and she raised up her little legs, so dad could get the sand off her "piggy wiggies" (toes people!)...she wasn't really feeling the sand too much!

Okay.....next we try and get in the water...nope...wasn't feeling that either!

She realized that this was NOT her bathtub!

"GET ME OUTTA HERE DADDY!!!!" Sometimes I have to remind Reggie that Bre is not a boy! LOL! He just kinda put her in and let her be, "Aww...she'll get used to it!" Hello!? I told him she won't wanna ever come back to the beach! Take her out! She is screaming her head off...a little embarrassing actually! Poor baby! She was holding on pretty tight....

Everything was okay after a swig of juice and snacks...of course food is always a remedy for her!

I really did ask her to stay out the Doritos cause of the sharp edges and fear of her choking...she didn't listen..as usual. She really thinks she is slick and no one is watching her. I love seeing her look out the corner of her eyes to see if anyone is watching...

BUSTED!!!!!!! Oh...yes...that is a mixture of chocolate pudding AND Doritos. Good mix right!?

Meanwhile...dad is so relaxed...he kinda fell asleep on me and Bre. I am assuming she was trying to cover him up?

So...me and baby girl attempted to try one more time. This time we went without daddy...and she did much better. I was talking to her as if we were in the tub, showing her that the water splashes just like it does in the tub! For some reason it made it better! Go figure!

Me and Bre playing in the water...I got more smiles this time around...next time should be even better.

We had a wonderful day at the beach...you know I can't wait to scrap these right?
Thanks for looking!

XOXO

Trisha

Food For Thought...

Have you ever thought about this............
----
HANDBAGS...
Have you ever noticed gals who sit their handbags on public toilet floors, then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table? Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes 'what you don't know will hurt you'!

Read on...

Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been.

It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day.

'I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,' says one woman. 'On the floor of my car, and in toilets.'

'I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts and on the floor of the toilet,' says another woman 'and of course in my home which should be clean.'

We decided to find out if handbags harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in SaltLake , and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag.
Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared.

Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty.

It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick.

In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. 'There is fecal contamination on the handbags' says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception.

The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. 'Some type of feces, or possibly vomit' says Amy.

So the moral of this story is that your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop.

Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes.
'If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the countertops' - Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!

Do you really want to bring that home with you?

The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags.
THIS IS WORTH SHARING!!!

My note to you!

Turning 30...

I will NEVER forget!!!

I had a blast and remember everything as if it was yesterday! Many people dread turning 30 but not be honey! I was completely looking forward!

So...it took me forever to decide exactly what I wanted to do for my birthday. I know I wanted family there, I know I wanted friends, food, music, etc. So how was I supposed to arrange this wild crazy day!? I finally thought to have a family fun get together FIRST until 8pm THEN after 8....it was PARTY TIME!

I had PLENTY of family there...started at like 4ish, till about 7:30ish. I hired the "taco guy" to come and fix tacos for me and my family, cause if you know anything about me, you know I am a taco fiend! So, taco man had carnitas, chicken , and asada. Along with tacos, he also included beans and rice. So we were set. With all the excitement...forgot to do my darn cake. Oh well..we saved that for the next day. We had dominoes out, a jumper for the kids to keep them occupied, so that was good.

Little cousins living it up in the jumper! I even got in and had a ball with them!

Here are a few pics of family during the day:

My step-sister Keisha and best friend of 25 years Rasheedah

My cousin Mike taking his sons shoes off to get in the jumper
(see my "Trisha's turning 30 sign?) I thought it was cute!

Anyway...it was quite a chore getting all the kids gone as adults started to stroll in....the DJ and Bartender! Yeah!!! It was time for all the kiddies to say bye bye! Party time!!!

I still need to have a talk to this guy...I make him responsible for helping me have a GREAT party!!!

I like the baarrrtender...(the song people!) Anyway...this is Kevin, the greatest bartender! Definately took care of the people!

Me and my coworker Keisha, shared a shot together! Thats the messed up part about it being your bday...everyone wants to do a shot with you!
After the shot!

Anyway...as you can see people were dancing the night away...
I was doing something going down the "Soul Train Line"...I know I did the robot a few times that night...

Party people in the place to be!

I had SUCH a blast man! My sister in law Regina got on the mic and sang a beautiful happy birthday to me..what I do remember at that moment was me being all emotional....sitting Indian Style boo-hooing...well maybe a little was the alchohol, but not all of it. I think I was so emotional because also at that moment, I just realized all over again how BLESSED I am to have all of these people at my house, my friends and family who love me....helping me celebrate my birthday. It is such a good feeling to have so many people in your corner...I love all of my friends who came out, and heck I even love yall who didn't make it. I know things happen....unfortunately you missed a good dang party I CAN tell you that!

Anyway...here are a few snapshots of me and some of my friends and family!

Me and Regina (sister-in-law), just had a baby...lookin good girl!
